Gemini Child

"Why must he rush around so? Why must he get into everything? What in the world is he searching for?"

Compiled and adapted from Linda Goodman's Sun Signs

Well, your Gemini child might not know the answer to those questions - yet but she is earnestly trying to find out! Her most basic urge is to seek, explore and learn.

Gemini kids may be loud and boisterous about it but only because it's necessary. They've got lots of energy moving through them. Be prepared to be on your toes for the next eighteen years. Stay alert and focused. Gemini children are fast.

Gemini is an air sign and air signs need to move.

They often have habits of nervous tapping and quick fluttery movements. They'll be fidgety and probably get lost in the mall or at the beach more often than other signs. Like those with Aquarian offspring, parents of late May or June tots are often comforted by a toddler harness.

It is best not to confine your Gemini tot, certainly not physically with such things as playpens and bouncy seats and definitely not mentally either. Any restriction of their freedom can lead to a depression and mental boredom will surely restrict their growth. They want to see and experience the world. Let them.

The Gemini child's physical activity is only matched by their mental activity which is equally as quick. They need variety! Give your Gemini toddler things to take apart and put back together and provide plenty of colorful books and educational toys.

They love to talk and tell stories.

Doing two things at once comes naturally to a Gemini child. They should be guided to slow down at times but try to do so without frustrating their natural inclinations. Attempting to change their enthusiastic personalities or make them more careful or patient can be harmful.

A Gemini child learns to read with ease and communicating verbally is a favorite pastime. They'll enjoy being called on to read for the class and sharing their vivid imaginations in writing. They're often ambidextrous as well. They will also excel at learning foreign languages and the latest dances craze.

Their sharp wit and humor appears early. The Gemini child lives in a blended world of physical reality and fantastical illusion and will often exaggerate to the point of telling a lie. They aren't inherently dishonest, they just can't help adding a bit of color to their stories.

Gemini children are excellent mimics and have magical hands good for tricks and playing musical instruments and maybe someday surgery or massage therapy. Their hands are expressive and capable and good at technical things.

Beware of a lack of patience with your Gemini teen, this can lead to unwillingness to persist in learning something new, solving a problem or figuring out a relationship. Gemini children are often unsatisfied with one pursuit at a time but striving for a goal will keep them grounded.

If your Gemini teen insists that she can study for finals and watch the season finale of American Idol - she's probably right. Her mind can handle that much. She may not listen without interrupting and will be perpetually late but she'll learn her studies.

They will love to travel and may find it hard to be punctual because they're always off on some new adventure. Listening without interrupting can be challenging and they are easily distracted. But once Geminis have grasped the main idea, they are not interested in the details.

It can be hard to keep the attention of a Gemini but they will be flatteringly curious if they do grant you the pleasure of their interest. Just don't repeat yourself or you may lose them.

Girls will be popular and boys will live on the phone. Your Gemini teen will also have a new steady relationship each week. She'll change her mind 150 times about her career and definitely drive too fast, miss her curfew without fail and sometimes her tendency to exaggerate or tell a few white lies can lead to trouble but she can turn on the tears or a sunny smile in a flash.

  • do not try to control
  • embrace their individuality
  • pick and choose your battles
  • keep them busy

Your Gemini child needs to feel free to express and communicate the myriad of thoughts and ideas that run through her head in any given moment or else she can retreat into a world of false illusions and self-defense. Give her lots of freedom to explore grow and discover activities to keep her busy. Try to use democratic rules and consequences with your Gemini. Controlling parenting methods and guilt trips only run the risk of damaging your child and creating unhappy and neurotic tendencies. Accept your child for what she is - an inquisitive, happy, alert and precocious little Gemini.
